Ethical Design?
Ethical Design comes from our “compassion”.
Ethical Design, that SEMBA defines, is to aim to create a better society across the entire supply chain. A design with “compassion” for people concerned to supply chain, the local society and the natural environment beyond them is going to be sought.
A design with “compassion” for people concerned to supply chain, the local society and the natural environment beyond them is going to be sought. We think it is a design of the life cycle, that includes not only the act of “making” but also “using” and “disposing”. When each of us designs the life with “compassion”, the future is gradually becoming a friendly space.
Circular Renovation®
／ Our Challenge
In the space creation industry, a space is destroyed in a short period of time, and a large amount of waste is generated. Therefore, we propose Circular Renovation®, which can realize a circular economy in the industry, to provide the value of not burdening the earth.
Circular Renovation® is a flamework of Ethical Design. We reorganized the supply chain and create new value by circulating “resources to use” and “resources to dispose”. In addition to environmental consideration, we invent “Future Friendly Spaces” that face social issues; responding to diversity and declining birthrates and ageing population, regenerating local business ecosystems, implementing cutting-edge technologies such as ICT or AI.

／a Laboratory to Co-create Future Friendly Spaces
Ethical Design Lab. is a platform for expanding the circle of Ethical Design activities and to co-creating a sustainable society with our ethical partners. It will aim to face issues troubling governments, business organizations and educational institutions in urban developments, facility managements and local community buildings, and to solve it through open innovations with experts from a wide variety of fields across industries.

Rethinking our Future from Materials
We have gathered information from about 100 manufacturers of building materials and raw materials, and carried out researches into how to recycle at the end of their useful life and utilize recycled resources.We study materials from 4 perspectives, Global Environment, Resource Recycling, People & Society and Creativity &Economical Efficiency, and we have a permanent gallery to showcase Ethical Material in our office.

Exploring Possibilities of Unused Resources
We collect items of no value in society; lumber that is not sawn such as broadleaf tree having bend, and industrial waste discharged from economic activities, and make original products converted from them.

We manage waste discharged from construction in a coordinated way and we are building a network got reuse and recycling. We focus on creating a system of resource recycling, by sorting mixed waste into a material one by one on the site and ensuring traceability after intermediate treatment.
